Norman Rotary donated a new book vending machine to Jackson Elementary School to continue fostering literacy and the love of reading.

The vending machine is part of our partnership, Success Cycles, with six Norman public elementary schools, which involves members volunteering to read to classes and giving out e-readers, bicycles, and other gifts to students who meet their reading goals.

“We believe that reading is really important and we want to create lifelong readers who want to read for fun because books open up so many possibilities,” said Liz McKown, Norman Rotary president.

As part of Success Cycles, students who meet their reading goals will be able to earn a trip to the book vending machine, and it will be incorporated into the school’s monthly Rotary drawings. The machine features books from a variety of elementary reading levels, including picture books and chapter books.

The book vending machine was funded in part through a Rotary District Grant. Read more about District Grants here.
